Campus Security Services is warning all new and returning students at Fanshawe College about a scam involving fake "party bus" events advertised online.
These events are not affiliated with Fanshawe College and are being promoted by individuals or organizations falsely claiming to represent student groups.
Scammers are using platforms like social media, event hosting websites and email to advertise back-to-school parties, often scheduled around move-in and orientation week. These promotions may include links to purchase non-refundable tickets and claim the events are taking place at or near the London Campus.
Please be aware:
- Fanshawe College does not host late-night party bus events during Orientation and school start-up
- Official student events are organized by departments such as Residence Life, Student Services and the Fanshawe Student Union.
- Official student events are promoted through Fanshawe College email addresses and websites like fanshawec.ca and fsu.ca
- If an event is not listed on the Fanshawe College or Fanshawe Student Union websites, it is not an official Fanshawe event.
What to watch for:
- Social media accounts with vague or missing contact information
- Ticket sales for events hosted by companies that cannot be verified
- Ticket sales through unfamiliar websites
- Promises of exclusive parties or discounts that sound too good to be true.
Report fraud
If you have already purchased tickets or shared personal/financial information, contact your bank immediately to block the charge and report potential fraud. You can also visit the Campus Security Services website for more information on how to protect yourself from scams.
Together we can keep our campus safe and informed. If you see suspicious promotions or have concerns, please report them to Campus Security Services: email security@fanshawec.ca or phone 519-452-4400.
