East London Link work nearing completion near London Campus
As part of the City of London's ongoing East London Link rapid transit project, construction continues near Fanshawe College's London Campus. Several important traffic changes are scheduled in the coming weeks as crews complete final paving and road restoration work.
We anticipate East London Link construction will conclude within the next six weeks. We also anticipate that Oxford Street will be fully reopened to traffic sometime in early October.
Second Street closure for paving
To complete the final phase of road paving, Second Street will be closed between Oxford Street and Dundas Street beginning approximately September 4.
The base layer of paving has already been completed. Crews will return to install the final surface coat.
During this work:
- There will be no through access on Second Street between Oxford Street and Dundas Street
- Drivers will not be able to travel northbound from Dundas Street to Oxford Street via Second Street
- Drivers will not be able to travel southbound from Oxford Street to Dundas Street via Second Street
- Vehicles travelling on Oxford Street may still turn north onto Fanshawe College Blvd.
- Eastbound and westbound traffic on Oxford Street will remain open, although traffic will continue to be reduced to one lane in each direction.
Drivers should follow all posted signage and allow extra time for travel through the area.
First Street construction complete
Traffic-related construction work on First Street is completed as of August 24 and the intersection of Oxford/First has re-opened.
- First Street will be available for southbound and through traffic to Dundas Street
- The pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of the street is open; the walkway on the west side is still under construction
- The roadway will likely remain open for the remainder of the East London Link project and beyond
- No additional road construction work is planned on First Street until final surface paving, currently targeted for September 21.
Accessing London Campus
Campus access will continue throughout construction.
- The London Campus west entrance/exit on Oxford Street (beyond T Building) remains open
- Drivers should continue to expect delays due to lane reductions and construction activity on Oxford Street
- Please use caution when travelling through construction zones and watch for pedestrians, cyclists and buses
