Part-Time Faculty named OHS Educator of the Year

Del Garcia, a part-time instructor in Fanshawe’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program, has been named OHS Educator of the Year by OHS Canada, a national media brand focused on workplace safety.

Presented at OHS Canada’s annual Honours Gala in Toronto, Del was recognized for his work supporting students in the classroom, as well as working safety professionals through his role as health and safety manager with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization.

For Del, the award is as much a reflection of the OHS team as it is of his own work. He says the recognition would not have been possible without the supportive and trusting environment created by the faculty and staff who support the program.

“While my name is on the award, I see it as something we’ve earned together,” says Garcia. “It reflects the school’s shared commitment to quality education and to preparing our students well for careers in health and safety.”

Stacey Pipicelli, associate dean of the School of Health Sciences and Public Safety, says Del brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience and passion to our students.

“Congratulations to Del on this well-deserved achievement,” she says. “We’re proud to have him as part of our OHS team and to see his contributions recognized by the industry.”
