Fanshawe College will be moving all academic programs currently offered at the London South Campus to the College’s London Campus (1001 Fanshawe College Blvd.) or to Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus, effective September 1, 2026. It is a difficult decision driven by changes and pressures within the post-secondary system. Fanshawe is facing a significant deficit over the next two years.

Fanshawe opened the London South Campus, in September 2019 to accommodate the growth of international enrolments. The federal government began imposing restrictions on study permits for international students in early 2024. This fall, full-time international enrolments declined 52.9% over the previous year to 3,142 students.

The decision is final as it was approved by the Board of Governors as part of a wider cost-saving effort to consolidate and optimize the College’s physical spaces.

The following academic programs will be impacted:
•    Agri-Business Management - offered only at Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus.
•    Business & Information Systems Architecture –offered at London Campus.
•    Health Care Administration Management –offered at London Campus.
•    Information Technology Infrastructure –offered at London Campus.

“The College remains committed to ensuring impacted students, whose program continues into the summer semester and beyond, will have the opportunity to complete their program with the same quality of education and support they expected when choosing to study at Fanshawe,” says Silvana Macdonald, dean of Business and Hospitality.

More information is available in the following FAQs.

How will this decision impact current students enrolled in a program at London South?

Our priority is to ensure all students currently enrolled at our London South Campus will have the opportunity to complete their programs with the same quality of education and support they expected when they chose to study at Fanshawe. Those students whose program ends after the winter or spring semester will not be impacted. Those students whose program will continue into the fall semester will complete in-person classes at our London Campus or the Simcoe/Norfolk Regional Campus (Agri-Business Management program only). More details about revised timetables and locations will be shared closer to the Fall 2026 semester.

Will this decision impact my student visa?

A campus change does not affect the validity of a student’s study permit. You will remain a registered student in the same Designated Learning Institution (DLI). If you have additional concerns, please meet with a Student Life and Immigration Advisor. Book an appointment.

Why is Fanshawe making this decision?

We recognize the impact this news will have on our faculty, staff and students.

Fanshawe is going through a period of significant transition. Due to unprecedented financial constraints, we continue to take difficult but necessary steps to address a significant deficit over the next two years due, in part, by the continued decline in international enrolments.

We continue to thoughtfully approach the problem by tightly monitoring our non-essential spending and reviewing our leased space portfolio. That review, coupled with a further 52.9% decline (to 3,142 students) in international enrolments for Fall 2025 semester, has confirmed that London South is no longer financially viable.

What impact will this decision have on the College’s other campuses, including Downtown London?

We remain committed to our teaching and learning spaces at our regional campuses as well as in downtown London.

How many faculty/staff will lose their job because of this decision?

We understand the uncertainty this creates for employees connected to London South. No decisions have been made about what positions will be impacted. Fanshawe is committed to thoughtfully supporting impacted employees during this transition.

Faculty and staff directly connected to London South have been personally informed by academic leadership. These conversations are being held with care and respect. More information will be shared with those employees as soon as possible.

What is happening with the lease/building?

We are currently exploring our options for the building.

What about students who have signed leases?

We recognize that some students may have signed leases through the fall of 2026. We encourage students who are interested in finding accommodations closer to London Campus to contact our Off-Campus Housing office at offcampushousing@fanshawec.ca.
