Fanshawe College is saddened to learn of the passing of Fanshawe student Emma Grace Black on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the age of 19. Emma, daughter of Jennifer Black, coordinator and full-time faculty member in the Nursing program at the Woodstock/Oxford Regional Campus, was to begin her second year in the Honours Bachelor of Commerce - Accounting program this fall.
Darren Johnson, associate dean of the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, shares the following message: "We were very sad to hear of the passing of one of our aspiring accountants in the Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree program. On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, we pass on our condolences to the family and friends of Emma."
Jennifer McLean, associate dean at the Woodstock/Oxford Regional Campus where Jennifer Black teaches, says the Woodstock team is heartbroken by this loss. "Our thoughts are with our colleague and her family during this very difficult time," she shared. "We’re holding her close in our thoughts and are here to support in any way we can."
Emma’s obituary can be read and online condolences can be offered on the Arbor Memorial website. Family and friends will be received at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, London, on Friday, August 1, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m., and again from 12 noon until the time of the Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 1 p.m.
In Emma’s memory, the Fanshawe flag at the London Campus and the Woodstock/Oxford Regional Campus will be lowered to half-mast on Friday, August 1, 2025.
