Four second-year Honours Bachelor of Interior Design (BID) students presented as finalists for the annual Staples Professional Scholarship – Academic Prize for Workplace Design on November 25.
Ashley Beattie, Elsi Casha Oshana, Zoey Gelsing and Becca Stevens presented their corporate design projects to a panel of judges made up of industry professionals from Staples Canada, Bluestone Properties Inc. and Global Furniture Group, along with BID alumna Victoria Newman representing SGH Design Partners.
Ashley Beattie (second from right) was selected as the recipient of the scholarship. Elsi Casha Oshana (far right) was named runner up.
“All four students did an excellent job presenting their designs with such professionalism,” says Professor Wendi Hulme, who teaches the Interior Design Studio 3 course with Professor Brieann Palamides. The studio course focuses on simulated projects involving workplace and healthcare settings under 2,500 square feet. “The panel of judges were very impressed, expressing that the students' work and presentation skills exceeded their expectations.”
Every second-year student in the BID program completes their corporate workplace design as part of the studio course, with Brieann and Wendi selecting the top four projects to move onto the finals.
