On November 5 and 12, students in Professor Shannon Maheu’s Positive Psychology class (PSYC-1055) stepped out of the traditional classroom and into the vibrant Makerspace at Innovation Village (Red Zone, London Campus). From 12 to 2 p.m., the space buzzed with energy as students explored creativity in action, an essential theme of the course.

The assignment was simple: explore a creative activity that is new-to-you or revisit a hobby you haven’t enjoyed in a while. The results? A mix of imagination and artistry! Students often record music, write poems, cook, dance, scrapbook or sew. This year, in the Makerspace, students painted colorful acrylics, sketched intricate pencil drawings, embroidered patterns and even crafted custom buttons.

For many, the experience was more than an academic exercise; it was a chance to rediscover the power of creativity and self-expression.

"Students were delighted to engage in the activity as a school assignment but also grateful for the free access to supplies to create their masterpieces," said Professor Maheu.
