Congratulations to Trevor Pottelberg, faculty member in the School of Contemporary Media and graduate of Fanshawe’s photography program, who won the title of

Soulful Screen Owl by Trevor Pottelberg

“2023 Photographic Artist of the Year” from the Professional Photographers of Canada.

Trevor received the award at a national exhibition celebrating the best of Canadian professional photography. His images, “Thunderbirds in Sync” (below) and “Soulful Screech Owl,” (right) were also selected for the Professional Photographers of Canada's 2023 loan collection.

A panel of master photographers judged the best works submitted by professional photographers from across Canada and accepted a selection of outstanding images for exhibition as the 2021 National Image Salon of the Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC). The salon was revealed on April 22, 2023, at Canadian Imaging, the annual conference of the PPOC held this year in Canmore, Alberta.

"We may not live in the most picturesque part of Canada, but I welcome the challenge to create beautiful artwork within my home range".

In addition to demonstrating the makers’ ability to create outstanding images for their clientele, inclusion into the salon earns the maker merits towards several designations offered to PPOC members, including the prestigious Craftsman of Photographic Arts and Master of Photographic Arts. The competition features entries from across Canada in 23 different classes, including commercial, portrait, fine art and wedding.
