Fanshawe Advanced Law Enforcement student, Jaspreet Sandhu, wanted to give back to the Woodstock/Oxford County community and help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. This desire led her to establish ‘The Good Human Project’, a free service to help seniors, disabled or those in self-isolation and not able leave their home to pick up groceries, medication or other essential items. Sandhu started by helping one person. When Woodstock mayor, Trevor Birtch, shared information about her service on his Facebook page, she became very busy with both requests for help and volunteers who wanted to be involved. Now her team includes 10 to 15 people, including fellow student Neil White, who are available to help those in need. Neil volunteers his time to The Good Human Project when he isn’t volunteering in his own community of Fergus, Ontario.
To ensure the safety of those most vulnerable, Ms. Sandhu insists that each volunteer have a current Vulnerable Sector Check. People from as far away as Kitchener have been contacting looking for help and most recently pharmacies from nearby area have been asking for help with their deliveries. The service has also been extended to include Fanshawe international students in the Woodstock area who need assistance. You can read stories about The Good Human Project on their Facebook page and in the Woodstock Sentinel-Review.
