This May, Fanshawe turns teal in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

In partnership with Anova, Fanshawe is proud to join a city-wide initiative to Colour the City Teal—a powerful campaign to raise awareness about sexual violence and support survivors in our community.

Teal is the official colour of SAAM, symbolizing courage, healing, and support for those affected by sexual violence. By illuminating our campus in teal, we aim to spark conversation, show solidarity with survivors, and emphasize our commitment to creating a campus and community free from violence.

Why SAAM Matters

Sexual violence impacts individuals of all backgrounds, and its effects ripple across communities. SAAM is a time to reflect on these impacts, learn about prevention, amplify the voices of survivors, and take meaningful action toward a safer and more supportive society.

Through education, community collaboration, and awareness-raising events, we can work together to challenge harmful myths, shift the culture around consent, and ensure that survivors are believed and supported.

How you can participate
  1. Wear Teal: Show your support throughout May by wearing teal. Whether it's a shirt, ribbon, or accessory, your visible support can help others feel seen and heard.
  2. Engage in Events: Watch for awareness events happening on campus and in the broader community in partnership with Anova and other local organizations.
  3. Learn More: Visit our Sexual Violence Prevention page on the Fanshawe website to explore resources, support services, and educational tools.
  4. Have Conversations: Talk with peers, classmates, and colleagues about consent, boundaries, and how we can all contribute to a culture of respect and safety.
Together, we can create change

By turning the lights teal, Fanshawe is sending a clear message: we believe survivors, we support education and prevention, and we are committed to being a part of the solution.

Let’s Colour the City Teal this May—for healing, for hope, and for a future free from sexual violence.
