Professor Tracie Skolny from the Registered Massage Therapy program has won the Teacher of the Year Award from the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).
Skolny was recognized for her expertise in diverse settings. Besides teaching at Fanshawe, she’s been a guest lecturer for the Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario and her commitment to experiential learning and innovation within the massage therapy program has helped advance the profession and train the next generation of massage therapists.
“She’s an exceptional teacher who’s cherished for her positive and engaging learning style as well as her ability to develop a supportive and inclusive classroom environment,” said the AMTA in a statement. “Her genuine interest in students' well-being and her vast knowledge ensures students remain motivated and excited about learning.”
In addition, Skolny has cultivated the student InReach program, which has partnered with Fanshawe College’s varsity athletes and St. Joseph’s Hospital Breast Care Program.
"Receiving the Jerome Perlinski Teacher of the Year Award from the American Massage Therapy Association is an honour that fills me with gratitude. I’m humbled to be given this particular award as Jerome was a dedicated, passionate and inspired educator who elevated the standards of our profession,” Skolny said. “I’m thankful to the colleagues, students and mentors who have shaped my journey as an educator. Their support and insight continue to fuel my commitment to growth and meaningful contributions within our profession."
The Teacher of the Year Award recognizes dedication and commitment to the future and excellence of massage education. Any massage therapy teacher who has worked for two or more years at an AMTA member school is eligible for the award.
“Tracie’s work within the InReach program has been truly outstanding, having dedicated many hours to make the experience meaningful to students. Prior to that role, her contributions in the Massage Theory and Techniques courses were equally impactful,” said Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences, Stacey Pipicelli. “We’re grateful for Tracie’s thoughtful approach to mapping the curriculum, optimizing our resources, and supporting the Massage Therapy program overall. Her efforts are helping us build a well-scaffolded and intentional program.”
The Jerome Perlinski Teacher of the Year Award honours outstanding massage educators in memory of Jerome Perlinski, an educator and leader within the massage community.
The AMTA serves its members while advancing the art, science and practice of massage therapy.
