Update for Fanshawe students, employees and community members about potential upcoming labour action at all public Colleges in Ontario
The union representing full-time support staff (Ontario Public Service Employees Union or OPSEU) has given notice that a strike by full-time support staff could begin as early as Thursday, September 11. This strike would affect all of Ontario’s public colleges.
What you need to know:
- If a strike happens, all classes will continue as scheduled and all Fanshawe campuses will remain open
- Information (e.g. what a strike means, how to cross a picket line) will be shared next week.
The employees who would be on strike are full-time support staff such as some members of the IT department, the Office of the Registrar and student services offices among many other positions across the College.
This strike does not directly involve full-time or part-time professors and academic employees, nor does it include part-time support staff. Employees in these union groups are required to continue their work. All classes will continue as scheduled and all Fanshawe campuses will remain open.
We will provide regular updates and more information soon, including what a strike means and how to cross a picket line. Please watch your personal and Fanshawe emails. Updates will also be posted on the Fanshawe website and through Fanshawe's social media channels.
You can learn more about negotiations by visiting the College Employer Council's website and the union's website.
