Congratulations to Fanshawe alumnus Damian Warner (Business Foundations, '10), an Olympic track and field athlete and gold-winning champion.
On Thursday, August 5, the 31-year old London native was announced as the gold medal winner in the men's decathlon competition and set a new Olympic record.
Warner is the first Canadian to win the decathlon at the Olympic games. His two-day, 10-event score of 9,018 points is the highest ever in Olympic decathlon. He is the the fourth man in history to break the 9,000-point barrier. He also set individual Olympic decathlon event records in the long jump and 110-metre hurdles.
Warner was named a Fanshawe College Distinguished Alumni Award recipient in 2012.
Warner made his Olympic debut in the London 2012 games and won a bronze medal in the decathlon during the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.
