Fanshawe will hold its annual Trauma and Treatment emergency training exercise at the College’s London Campus (1001 Fanshawe College Blvd.) on Saturday, March 7 and Sunday, March 8.

Throughout the weekend, there will be a variety of realistic emergency scenarios taking place on campus, both indoors and outdoors. Those in the vicinity may see emergency vehicles and simulated crisis situations. Fanshawe would like the community to be aware of this event to prevent any undue public concern.

The scenarios conducted through Trauma and Treatment provide an opportunity for second-year students in Fanshawe’s Paramedic program to respond to emergency calls, taking the lead in patient assessment, treatment and transport. The patients are portrayed by students from the Acting for Screen and Stage program. In total, more than 150 students from seven different programs across the College, including 911 and Public Safety CommunicationsNursing and Office Administration, will take part.

Community partners, including paramedic services from Middlesex-London, Oxford and Norfolk County and the London Fire Department and London Police Auxiliary, will also participate giving students a valuable experiential learning opportunity that helps prepare them for careers in emergency response. In addition, local high school students from HB Beal Secondary School’s SHSM Fashion, Hairstyling and Aesthetics program have volunteered to assist with applying moulage, the special effects makeup used to simulate injuries.

“Trauma and Treatment offers students an immersive, hands-on learning experience that reflects the realities of emergency response,” says Jennifer Doyle, coordinator of Fanshawe’s Paramedic program. “It’s a powerful opportunity for students to sharpen their skills, build confidence and work collaboratively with community partners - all essential components of effective frontline care."
