As concerns grow around commercial truck training and licensing standards in Ontario, a Fanshawe expert is available to share what prospective drivers, employers and the public should know when evaluating training quality, safety practices and career pathways.

Heather Carey, senior manager of Fanshawe’s Corporate Training Solutions, can speak about the current trucking landscape and offer practical guidance for those considering a career in commercial driving, as well as for employers looking to recruit or train drivers.

Topics for interviews include:

  • Why quality training matters for road safety and career success;
  • What to look for in a reputable training program;
  • Warning signs to watch for, such as programs promising quick results or guaranteed jobs without strong standards;
  • What to look for in an employer, including safety culture, mentorship and working conditions;
  • Funding programs that support driver training and fleet upskilling.

“Choosing the right training program and employer can have a significant impact on both safety and career outcomes in the trucking industry,” Carey says. “It is important that prospective drivers take the time to understand what quality training looks like and seek out organizations that prioritize safety, experience and ongoing development.”
