The Generative AI in the Workplace Lunch & Learn Series is a six-session professional development program designed to introduce staff to the practical use of generative AI tools in day-to-day work. Through a blend of theory, live demonstration, and guided hands-on practice, participants will build foundational skills in AI prompting, explore real-world workplace applications, and understand the ethical, safe, and effective use of AI technologies.

Targeted to a broad range of employee roles, the series progresses from an introductory overview to more advanced techniques, concluding with a project-based workshop that encourages participants to apply their learning in context. Each session is one hour in length (with a 90-minute capstone workshop), making the program highly accessible within the workday.

Participants will leave the series with increased confidence using AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and others; a practical portfolio of use cases; and a solid understanding of how to responsibly integrate generative AI into their professional workflows. The program also supports innovation, collaboration, and ongoing learning across the organization.

Introduction to Generative AI

This foundational session introduces staff to the core concepts of generative AI, including how large language models (LLMs) work and the types of tools currently available. Participants will explore common workplace applications, engage in a live demonstration, and complete a guided activity using a generative AI platform. Ideal for beginners, this session helps staff envision how AI can enhance their daily work.

The Art of Prompting

Effective use of generative AI starts with strong prompting. This session focuses on the structure, language, and techniques required to produce high-quality outputs from AI tools. Participants will practice writing and refining prompts through peer-reviewed activities, learning how to iterate and optimize their inputs for more accurate, relevant results across a variety of tasks.

Workplace Applications & Use Cases

This session dives into department-specific use cases, helping participants identify how generative AI can streamline tasks across HR, marketing, sales, administration, and technical roles. Emphasis is placed on ethical use, workplace guidelines, and building a personal use case portfolio. This hands-on session allows employees to immediately begin applying AI tools in their own work contexts.

Advanced Techniques & Tools

Designed for participants with some AI experience, this advanced session explores more complex prompting strategies, tool-specific features, and the integration of multiple AI platforms for enhanced productivity. Topics include code generation, data analysis, and automation workflows. Through hands-on activities, learners will build multi-step prompts and compare the capabilities of leading AI tools.

AI Safety & Best Practices

As the use of AI expands in the workplace, safety and ethical use are critical. This session equips participants with knowledge about data privacy, risk management, and best practices for responsible AI use. Real-world scenarios and policy reviews help participants develop personal guidelines that align with organizational standards and minimize risk.

Project Workshop

In this capstone session, participants apply their learning to real workplace challenges through project-based work. They will share practical examples, provide peer feedback, and reflect on lessons learned. The session also covers strategies for continued AI skill development, keeping pace with future trends, and scaling successful implementations across teams.
