How to Obtain a M2 and M class Licence
Below are the steps required to obtain your Motorcycle licence through Fanshawe College.
- Obtain your M1 (beginners) licence from any DriveTest Ontario centre.
- Register for the M2 Training & Test to upgrade to an M2 class licence or the Motor Trike/ Spyder Training & Test to upgrade to an M2M class licence.
- After 60 days of having your M1 licence and successfully completing the training and test course mentioned in step 2, upgrade your M1 licence to an M2/M2M class IN PERSON at any DriveTest Ontario location. The DriveTest Centre will have access to your test results 3 business days after your course is complete.
After 18 months of having your M2/M2M and successfully completing the M2 Exit Training & Test or the Motor Trike Exit Training & Test course, upgrade your M2/M2M licence to an M/MM class IN PERSON at any DriveTest Ontario location. The DriveTest Centre will have access to your test results 3 business days after your course is complete.
Notes:
- Your M1 licence is only valid for 90 days.
- Course test results are only valid for six months. It is the participant’s responsibility to process their licence upgrade within the allotted time frame.
- Participants are permitted to use a college-issued motorcycle for their training and road tests when upgrading from an M1 to an M2 or M2M licence as long as they have a valid M1.
- If you do not wish to take the M2 Exit Training & Testing course, you are also eligible to register for a road test through DriveTest to obtain your M licence after 22 months with your M2.

The following statements apply to all courses listed below:
Participants must provide the appropriate safety/riding gear: a DOT-approved helmet, eye protection, full-finger riding gloves, a long-sleeved jacket, long pants (denim or leather), and boots that cover the ankle.
Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent/guardian attend the first 30 minutes of their course and co-sign the required waiver.
Refunds can be issued up to two (2) business days before the course start date.
These Canada Safety Council training programs are sanctioned by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
Introduction to Motorcycle
$105 (+HST)
Do you want a glimpse into the exciting world of motorcycles? Get a head start and boost your confidence with this preparatory course where you will be introduced to braking, balance and clutch control.
An M1 license is not required for this course.
Participants are not required to provide their own motorcycle.

Motorcycle (M2) Training & Test
$516.73 (+HST)
This course prepares new riders to safely and confidently enjoy their motorcycle experience through practical and progressive skill development. Upon successful completion of the course (and associated testing), participants will receive documentation for their M2 license.
Participants must obtain their M1 license before starting the course.
Participants are not required to provide their own motorcycle.

M2 Exit Training & Test
$449 (+HST)
The course is designed to prepare riders for the M2 Exit test and includes a mandatory simulated road test.
A valid M2 license is required. Participants who have completed Motorcycle Driver Education must have held their M2 for at least 18 months. Students without driver education must have held their M2 for at least 22 months.
Participants must provide their own motorcycle with valid motorcycle insurance.

Motor Trike/ Spyder Training & Test
$299 (+HST)
This course is designed to teach novice or experienced riders how to operate a 3-wheeled motorcycle. Through classroom and practical training, participants are introduced to turning, braking, shifting, and controlling the vehicle at speed. A skills evaluation is conducted at the end of the course by an MTO-approved signing authority.
An M1 license is not required.
Participants are not required to provide their own motorcycle.
