WRIT: Foundational Literacy Course

WRIT is a 14-week foundational literacy course required by most programs at Fanshawe, facilitated through the School of Arts and Language. This course is designed to help students succeed as effective and competent communicators in their professional, academic, and personal lives. The WRIT course introduces students to essential principles of reading, writing, and reasoning at the college level. Students may qualify to opt out of the course by demonstrating they can already meet or exceed the expectations through an advanced assessment.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TRAINING

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Program

Fanshawe’s English for Academic Purposes Ontario Certificate program offers a direct pathway from English language learning to post-secondary studies, with no additional language testing required. For domestic (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) and international students who need English language training to study at a college level, this is a full-time option that includes a series of ten levels (each 8 weeks long). Students start at the level indicated by their placement test, and are encouraged to take two levels per college semester. To progress to the next EAP level, students must achieve a minimum score of 70%.

For example, this could include career exploration, training for international ESL teachers, or English training for specific professional groups (such as business leaders, healthcare professionals and engineers).
