  1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry stakeholders, including record labels, publishers, and media outlets, to advance an artist's career.
  2. Develop and implement marketing and promotion strategies across multiple media platforms to build an artist's sonic brand and increase their profile and fan base.
  3. Develop and implement a business plan including forecasting revenue and expenses for a professional musician, management company or artist development company to confirm viability.
  4. Adhere to legal and regulatory frameworks, including copyright, music licensing, contract requirements, and industry codes of conduct, to ensure compliance and avoid liability issues.
  5. Manage budgets and financial records for all aspects of music industry activities to maximize profits and minimize risks.
  6. Identify and access public and private sources of capital to support music business plans.
  7. Provide creative leadership within a project team to market an artist or new music.
  8. Analyze and interpret music industry trends and data to inform strategic decision-making in the development of promotional media products for artist branding.

Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:
  1. Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario

Take all of the following Mandatory Courses:
MIDI-6007Artist Management and Development6
The course will provide insight into successful strategies for the management and development of artists. From the perspective of professionals in roles such as Artist and Repertoire, Music Supervision, Distributed Labels, Digital Stream Services and Artist Manager, students will learn apply stages of development and identify opportunities for artists in different genres. The creation and execution of strategies for marketing, sales, branding, and campaigns to promote those artists and their music will be studied. Students will research the operations of music corporations, medium-sized enterprises, and independent businesses, and make industry connections locally, regionally, and internationally.
MIDI-6008Music Performance 18
Students will be engaged in multiple live performances throughout the term in diverse venues. Solo artists, bands and musicians will deliver compelling and professional live performance as a means to promote, position and profile their music careers. Students will participate in the creation of original material for live performance through songwriting and arranging workshops. Two small to mid-sized public capstone concerts will be produced.

Students will be producing all aspects of live shows and recorded material. The course will be project based and develop students' technical skills in PA, lighting, staging, venue scouting, studio recording and social media production.
