CASPer requirements

All applicants to the Practical Nursing (full and part time), Paramedic and the Western-Fanshawe Collaborative BScN programs will be required to complete a CASPer assessment as a component of the admission process. The assessment is an online 90-minute computer-based assessment. Applicants who do not complete the CASPer assessment will not be considered for admission. CASPer results are valid for one admissions cycle. Applicants who have already taken the assessment in previous years will therefore be expected to do the assessment again.

CASPer is an online assessment designed to evaluate key non-cognitive skills, as well as interpersonal and professional characteristics essential for students to be successful in health care programs and ultimately, as practicing nurses and paramedics. Since CASPer assesses non-cognitive and interpersonal characteristics, studying is not required.

Applicants to the Paramedic program will be writing the Canadian Professional Health Sciences (CSP-10201) version of Casper. When on the Casper assessment website, choose “Primary Care Paramedic” as your program.

Practical Nursing program applicants will be writing the Undergraduate Health Sciences (CSP-10202) version of Casper. When on the Casper assessment website, choose “Nursing - Undergraduate” as your program.
