Overview

Preceptorship

In this course, nursing stream students work with a preceptor in a point-of-care context to synthesize knowledge to gain proficiency in evidence-informed nursing practice, relational practice, leadership, and clinical judgement. Guided by a Registered Nurse (RN) preceptor, the student is a contributing member of intraprofessional and interprofessional health care teams, developing leadership skills and independence while developing an individual philosophy of nursing practice in Ontario. Students use strengths-based approaches to focus on deepening their assessment, clinical judgement, and advocacy skills and abilities to provide client care that is ethical, respectful, safe, competent, and compassionate. At the completion of the course, the student will meet the College of Nurses of Ontario Entry-to-Practice Competencies for Registered Nurses.
