Overview

Business Information Systems

This is a survey course in the use of computer-based information systems in management and accounting. Topics include hardware and software, file and database organization, telecommunications and networks, e-commerce, information management and decision support systems, systems development, and the impact of computers. Database and decision support programs are used to examine solutions to common business problems. Microsoft Access topics include all of the components of the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification program. Assignments and lessons are focused on the practice of accounting in the business world. After completion of the course, students will be able to make informed decisions about the applications of information technology in business.
