Microcredential Series Description

AutoCAD is one of the primary 2D design software packages used in the Interior Design and Decorating industry. This microcredential series is for working professionals and others who have little or no prior experience with AutoCAD. Students will learn how to use the interface and tools to complete basic drawings. They will implement the use of layers in a multi-page drawing package, create drawings with title blocks, scaled viewports and layers, and complete print packages involving multi-sheet drawing sets. The series in online synchronous and will be led by an instructor.

COMP-1572Autocad for Design - Level 1
AutoCAD is one of the primary 2D design software packages used in the Interior Design and Decorating industry. This microcredential is appropriate for working professionals and others who have little or no prior experience with AutoCAD and wish to use the interface and tools to complete basic drawings. Teacher support will be offered in one of Fanshawe's instructional labs. Learning Outcomes: 1. Employ AutoCAD interface & tools to complete basic drawings. 2. Demonstrate proper application of the draw, modify, and annotate tools to a residential drawing 3. Set-up drawing properties using metric or imperial units Total class hours - 20
COMP-1573Autocad for Design - Level 2
AutoCAD is one of the primary 2D design software packages used in the Interior Design and Decorating industry. This microcredential is appropriate for working professionals and others who have an introductory level of knowledge in AutoCAD and wish to learn more by practicing their interior decorating/design skills. Learners will use the AutoCAD interface & tools to complete drawings, set up a drawing using basic layers, navigate drawing properties & page set up, add annotation to drawings with text, dimensions, leaders, tables, and notes and print basic drawings. Learners will enjoy practicing their skills in Fanshawe's labs with instructor support. Learning Outcomes: 1. Use the AutoCAD interface & tools to complete drawings. 2. Set up a drawing using basic layers? 3. Navigate drawing properties & page set up 4. Add annotation to drawings with text, dimensions, leaders, tables, and notes 5. This microcredential is appropriate for working professionals and others who have some knowledge in AutoCAD and wish to learn about Implementing the use of layers in a multi-page drawing package, creating drawings with title blocks, scaled viewports and layers, and completing print packages involving multi-sheet drawing sets. Learners will enjoy practicing their design skills in Fanshawe's labs with instructor support. Learning Outcomes: 1. Use the AutoCAD interface & tools to complete complex interior drawings. 2. Implement the use of layers in a multi-page drawing package 3. Create drawings with title blocks, scaled viewports & appropriate layers 4. Digital tools: As a student of this course, you will be allowed to download a free version of AutoCAD from the Autodesk website A PC computer will be required with the following minimum requirements.

System requirements for AutoCAD 2024 including Specialized Toolsets (Windows)

Operating System: 64-bit Microsoft® Windows® 11 and Windows 10 version 1809 or above.

Processor: Basic: 2.5–2.9 GHz processor (base) ARM Processors are not supported. 

Recommended: 3+ GHz processor (base), 4+ GHz (turbo)

Memory Basic: 8 GB

Recommended: 32 GB

Display Resolution: Conventional Displays:1920 x 1080 with True Color High Resolution & 4K Displays: Resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 (with "Recommended" display card) Display Card Basic: 2 GB GPU with 29 GB/s Bandwidth and DirectX 11 compliant

DirectX 12 with Feature Level 12_0 is required for Shaded(Fast) and Shaded with edges(Fast) visual styles. Please be sure to use the latest video card manufacturer drivers from their website.

Note: AutoCAD uses your computer's display card for a variety of essential graphics operations including but not limited to view manipulation, line smoothing, and text/line type generation. It is recommended that you have a display card with dedicated VRAM to support these operations at optimal speeds.

Pointing Device: MS-Mouse compliant

Note: Users of Mac computers may use the native Mac version of the software, but will face numerous differences in the user interface between it and the PC version used in this course, differences that will not be discussed in the course materials. It is therefore recommended that students without access to a PC run the PC version through a Windows emulator or virtual machine on their Macs. Check the AutoCAD website for information son system requirements and options on running AutoCAD software on a Mac.
