Program Description

This online program will support Registered Nurses (RN) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) in building the necessary knowledge and expertise to care for clients in perioperative settings. Areas of study include the basic equipment and instruments used, the principles of aseptic technique, and the importance of infection control and their role within the perioperative setting.

This course is designed to provide the nurse withan increased knowledge level of the role she willtake, of the other professionals s/he willencounter, the basic equipment and instrumentsused, the principles of aseptic technique, and theimportance of infection control within theperioperative setting. Where relavent, a basicanatomy review is included. The focus will be onthe adult patient (age 19-65). The overall goal ofthe course is to present the knowledge and skillsrequired to prepare the nurse to practice within asurgical setting at a beginner's level.

Surgeries specific to gastrointestinal, liver, pancreas,biliary tract, breast and gynecologic/obstetric.Wound healing is also presented in this course. Discussion includes anatomy, instrumentation, patient care and positioning, special equipment required, post-op care, pain management and information unique to the above surgical topics.
Perioperative Nursing 3NRSG-3023 3 Yes Yes
Surgeries specific to orthopaedics, ENT,neurosurgery, plastics, paediatrics, ophthalmology and trauma.Discussion includes anatomy, instrumentation, patient care and positioning, special equipment required and information unique to the above surgical topics.
Perioperative Nursing 4NRSG-5039 3 Yes Yes
Surgeries specific to cardiac, thoracic, vascular,genitourinary, geriatrics and ambulatory day surgery. Discussion includes anatomy, instrumentation, patient care and positioning, special equipment required and information unique to the above surgical topics. This course also discusses Interventional and Guided Images, and hand scrubbing, gowning and gloving.
