Supervisory & Leadership Basics II - Micro-credential

Successful front-line employees are often seen as prime candidates for supervisory and leadership roles, but moving from the front line to supervision / management requires additional knowledge and skills. Supervisor & Leadership Basics II provides high potential, recently promoted, or experienced supervisors additional foundational knowledge to further develop in their existing role or to prepare for future opportunities. Students will achieve focused learning outcomes such as key legal and technical knowledge to build a healthy and resilient workplace based on Ontario Labour Laws and current leadership theory. This MC will focus on important aspects of Health and Safety, Employment Law, and some associated aspects of Human Resources, specifically the responsibilities of the supervisor regarding Accident investigation; Introduction and Foundations in Ontario Employment/Labour Law; Performance Management; and writing and delivering Performance Appraisals. Learning Outcomes: 1. Recognize and interpret employment-related legislation 2. Recall the essential elements of Health and Safety Reporting 3. Identify (and briefly discuss?) the purpose of performance appraisal 4. Identify the necessary characteristics of accurate performance management tools 5. Discuss the options for what to evaluate in a performance appraisal. 6. Apply commonly used performance measurement methods and forms Total class hours - 20
