Auto Body Repairer Apprentice (Branch II)-2024/2025

| ATBR-1001 | Applied Work Practices | 3 | ||
| This course when completed will enable students to identify work related hazards and to work in a manner where he/she is not a danger to themselves or others in the work environment. Students will learn all aspects of WHMIS training and will recall the information at annual intervals in the workplace. Students will study acts and laws pertaining to the trade in auto collision body repair. Students will utilize classroom knowledge to work safely with proper hand tools and various shop equipment. Students will also be able to identify types of fastening, sealing, and hardware used within the auto body collision repair trade. | ||||
| ATBR-1002 | Welding | 2 | ||
| This course when completed will enable students to properly use various forms of welding and cutting equipment in a safe a proficient manner. This includes performing oxy-acetylene fusion welding and cutting, the fundamentals of gas metal arc welding, and the capability of using a plasma arc cutter. Students will also be able to self evaluate their own work and make adjustments to improve their own welding personal techniques. | ||||
| ATBR-1025 | Body Frame Structure | 4.5 | ||
| This course when completed will enable the students to identify the various vehicle design concepts and manufacturing processes. Aspects of structural and non-structural panel construction will be discussed along with safety features related to bumper system function and design. Students will learn repair techniques such as metal finishing as well as the use of appropriate filler materials utilized in the repair of non-structural panels. | ||||
| ATBR-1004 | Refinishing | 3 | ||
| This course when completed will enable the students to identify the various vehicle design concepts and manufacturing processes. Aspects of structural and non-structural panel construction will be discussed along with safety features related to bumper system function and design. Students will learn repair techniques such as metal finishing as well as the use of appropriate filler materials utilized in the repair of non-structural panels. | ||||
| ATBR-1024 | Applied Mechanical | 2.5 | ||
| This course when completed will enable students to understand the basic fundamentals of PCs and how to use them, electrical systems in vehicles including batteries, and how air conditioning systems function. Students will understand the importance of refrigerant recovery. Students will also learn electrical circuit repair, circuit protection, and gain knowledge of tires and rims. Students will relate this knowledge and apply this while in the labs working in groups. | ||||

| WELD-3013 | Welding | 1.5 | ||
| This course when completed will enable students to properly use various forms of welding equipment in a safe and productive manner. This includes performing shielded metal arc welding, proficient gas metal arc welding to the point of manufacturer's structural requirements, and the capability of using a resistance spot welder. Students will also be able to self evaluate their own work and make adjustments to improve their own welding personal techniques. | ||||
| ATBR-3002 | Refinishing | 2 | ||
| This course when completed will enable the students to build on basic level skills and gain a working knowledge of several subject areas related to refinishing of modern vehicles. There is indepth coverage of several areas including the refinishing of plastic body components, the steps and procedures required for overall complete vehicle refinishing, as well as the steps to perform vehicle detailing after refinishing work has been completed. | ||||
| ATBR-3003 | Plastic Repair | 2 | ||
| This course when completed will enable the students to identify the various families of plastics and their manufacturing processes. Aspects of plastic usage, component construction will be discussed along with conventional repair procedures for reinforced and non reinforced plastics. Another major component of this course is mastering the skill of plastic welding. | ||||
| ATBR-3004 | Body & Structure | 4 | ||
| This course when completed will enable the students to gain a working knowledge of several subject areas related to the body and structure of modern vehicles. There is in depth coverage of several areas including corrosion protection and its benefits to vehicles, measuring systems and their use on collision damaged vehicles, automotive glass design and enhancements and vehicle safety devices incorporated into the design of vehicles. | ||||
| ATBR-3005 | Non-Structural Repair | 4 | ||
| This course when completed will enable students to identify and perform non-structural repair procedures. Students will diagnose panel damage, recall information learned, and repair damage using sequential repair techniques, tools and work processes in a logical manner. Students will also obtain knowledge and perform steps on the replacement fundamentals of non-structural panels directly related to auto collision body repair. | ||||
| ATBR-3006 | Applied Mechanical | 2 | ||
| This course when completed will enable students to understand the function of the automotive cooling systems and to make educated decisions on troubleshooting faults. Students will obtain knowledge on the workings of vacuum, electrical series, parallel,and series parallel circuits. Students will learn procedures on the removal and installation of interior trim and vehicle dashboards. Student will also gain knowledge on the function of fuel and exhaust systems of the combustion engine. | ||||

| Students Must Complete a Minimum of 8 credits in this program at Fanshawe College to meet the Program Residency requirement and graduate from this program | ||||
