Artist Vanessa Wiles turns inward, exploring her inner child and hazy constellations of memories, images and sensations that shape, The Kids Are Alright. With undiagnosed ADHD and growing up with significant childhood trauma, Vanessa experienced gaps in memory and distances from her early years. This body of work draws from the artist’s own childhood and her journey to reconnect with the parts of herself that were once lost. Through absence emerged a desire and determination to create work that rebuilds those connections.
Viewers are invited, by means of reconstructed experiences, colours and photographs, to step into reimagined moments that possibly awaken their own inner child. Sculpture, interactive installations and collage, engage familiar childhood experiences that become portals into a world of seeing life with the wonder of a child’s eye again.
