Home Child Care Business Foundations

Starting and Managing a Home-Based Child Care in Ontario? This course equips aspiring home-based child care providers with the essential knowledge and skills to launch and manage a home child care business in Ontario. Participants will explore the fundamentals of operating a sole proprietorship in the province, with attention to the various pathways available for offering child care from home, including both licensed and unlicensed options. The course introduces learners to key regulatory frameworks, business operations, financial management, and best practices to support a high-quality, compliant, and sustainable child care environment. Participants will gain basic practical knowledge in budgeting, record keeping, marketing, and long-term business planning. Critical resources such as the Home Child Care Agency Licensing Manual 2025, the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), the Child Care Violations Registry, and "How Does Learning Happen?", will be explored to support informed decision-making and responsible practice. Designed for individuals preparing to launch or enhance a home child care business in Ontario, this course emphasizes professionalism, ethical practice, and ongoing quality improvement. Participants will leave with tools, templates, and the foundational knowledge needed to operate their home child care business with confidence. Target Audience: Individuals interested in starting or enhancing a home-based child care business in Ontario, either licensed or unlicensed. This course is 36 hours total, including 30 asynchronous/independent learning and 6 online synchronous/self guided hours.
