What is a Pathway?

A Program Pathway is a transfer route between postsecondary programs, recognizing prior learning and earned credits. This transfer may occur within the same institution or to another institution.

What is a Course Transfer?

A course transfer happens when a student gets credit from one school or program for a course they took at another.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I study?

Fanshawe maintains pathway partnerships with postsecondary institutions provincially, nationally, and internationally. Visit the Fanshawe Pathways Database and select your program to review existing pathway options, or visit ONTransfer.ca to find pathway opportunities to other Ontario colleges and universities.

How do I know if I qualify for a pathway?

Admission requirements vary by program and institution.

There may be certain grade point averages or minimum grade requirements to transfer your courses. Some Ontario institutions may also require the completion of specific high school courses. When it comes to degree completion, you might be required to complete some additional "bridging courses" to fill the gaps in learning between the two-year or three-year program and the four-year degree.

Start by checking the Fanshawe Pathways Database and visit the website of your institution of interest to review admission requirements.

What happens if my Fanshawe program doesn’t have pathways?

You can apply to other programs as long as you meet their admission requirements. You may also have the option of applying for transfer credits on a course-by-course basis. Many times, transfer credits are evaluated after you have applied and been admitted to your second program.

To apply to another Fanshawe program:

  • Review the admission requirements your program of interest
  • Check if you qualify for Internal Credits

To apply to another institution in Ontario, Canada, or abroad:

  • Contact your institution of interest to inquire about admission requirements and transfer credits
  • If you have a list of courses you would like to transfer to another college or university in Ontario, you can search for course transfers on ONTransfer.ca, an unofficial guide to how courses transfer from one institution to another in Ontario.
How do I apply for Internal Credits?

Internal credit allows you to get credit for a Fanshawe course on the basis of previous credit achieved in a different Fanshawe course. Courses will have at least 80% comparable content and learning outcomes. A minimum passing grade must be achieved to grant the internal credit. Some courses or programs may require a higher grade.

How to apply for internal credit:

  • Complete the Course Credit Transfer Form
  • The academic school will assess the application for internal credit
  • The academic school will notify you of the decision. Once approved, internal credits will show on your Program Evaluation Summary (EVAL) in WebAdvisor.
Is there any financial support for Pathways?

Fanshawe offers three Pathways Scholarships each year, visit the Pathways Scholarships page.

Most of our international partner schools offer partial scholarships or tuition discounts to Fanshawe graduates. Connect with your institution of interest to find out about these options.

What is residency requirement?

The percentage of a college program you must complete at Fanshawe to be eligible for that College credential. You must be enrolled and complete at least 25% of a program’s credit units at Fanshawe. Fanshawe bachelor's degrees must meet the requirements of the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board (PEQAB), the regulatory body for College bachelor's degrees.
