Eid Mubarak to all as Eid al-Fitr begins

The Fanshawe College community extends warm, heartfelt wishes as many students and employees gather to celebrate Eid al-Fitr after recognizing the holy month of Ramadan.

Eid al-Fitr is one of two major holidays celebrated within Islam (the other being Eid al-Adha in summer). Commonly known simply as “Eid”, Eid al-Fitr is a three-day festival that marks the end of Ramadan*, which began on February 17, 2026. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection for millions around the world. It is a month-long period of daily self-discipline through dawn-to-sunset fasting and prayer, combined with charitable acts to reflect the values of empathy, compassion and solidarity.

May this Eid al-Fitr bring you peace, joy and abundance!

As a diverse and inclusive College community, Fanshawe encourages everyone to come together supporting one another in our respective paths towards personal growth and spiritual fulfillment. Strengthen the bonds of friendship and understanding, bridge divides, and spread kindness and generosity, extending a helping hand to those in need and embodying the true spirit of compassion and unity. May every fast, every prayer and every moment of reflection stay rooted within each person long after the month has passed and inspire us to be better versions of ourselves.

Eid Mubarak to all!

*When is Eid?

*The date of Eid al-Fitr celebrations will depend each year on the sighting of the waxing crescent moon (the new moon marking the start of the month Shawwal). In 2026, the crescent moon is expected to be visible on the evening of Thursday, March 19 and Eid al-Fitr is expected to begin at sundown of the same day or a day after, on Friday, March 20. The exact date may vary among countries and Muslim communities.
