Nutrition for Endurance Sports - Micro-credential
The Nutrition for Endurance Sports is a 6-hour micro-credential intended to provide athletes, coaches, and fitness enthusiasts with a comprehensive understanding of how nutrition plays a critical role in optimizing performance, recovery, and overall health in endurance sports. This online seminar focuses on the specific nutritional needs of people who engage in endurance activities such as long-distance running, cycling, triathlons, etc. Learning Outcomes: 1. Identify the key macronutrients required for optimal performance in endurance sports and explain their respective roles in energy production and overall health. 2. Analyze and calculate individual energy needs based on body composition to support energy balance and performance goals. 3. Apply different strategies to optimize glycogen stores and sustain energy levels during prolonged endurance activities. 4. Define protein requirements for endurance athletes and understand the significance of protein intake in muscle repair and recovery after strenuous workouts. 5. Describe the importance of hydration and fluid/electrolyte balance in endurance sports and discuss strategies to prevent dehydration and maintain optimal performance. 6. Discuss ergogenic aids commonly used in endurance sports and assess effectiveness and potential risks 7. Demonstrate an understanding of the different nutrition strategies pre, during and post exercise to support peak performance and to optimize recovery for endurance events. Total class hours - 6
