Your Learning Experience
The Construction Engineering Technology program will develop the technical knowledge and skills required to oversee and manage the construction of residential, industrial, commercial and institutional projects - from the conceptual planning phase through to project completion and contract closeout.
Students within the advanced diploma will learn how to estimate labour, material and costs, write and understand contacts, establish a project’s budget, develop a site logistic plan, schedule and manage construction projects, and perform on-site field engineering, field inspections, and utilize the latest onsite technology. You'll also learn the soft skills required to be an effective, respected leader - both in the office and on-site.
Graduates will be well-positioned to obtain several professional designations with multiple governing bodies in the construction industry such as Certified Engineering Technologist, Gold Seal Certified, and Professional Quantity Surveyor.
The program provides the technical knowledge and skills required to manage the construction of industrial, commercial, and institutional buildings from the planning stage through to completion. Studies include construction materials and methods, construction equipment, surveying, project management, scheduling, estimating, building economics, and construction contracts. Twelve months of co-operative work experience is an integral part of the program.

The Construction Engineering Technology - Management program offers a co-operative education component, which provides students the opportunity to gain invaluable first-hand workplace experience in their chosen field. Here are some co-op jobs that have kick-started the careers of some Construction Engineering Technology - Management students before even graduating!
General Labourer
Work under a Project Superintendent or Foreman and contribute to ICI construction and maintenance projects in a hands-on capacity, learning about how the physical aspect of a construction project is undertaken.
Junior Estimator
Work under a Chief Estimator, Estimator, or a Project Manager, to determine quantity and cost estimates for current projects and upcoming bids.
Construction Coordinator
Work under a project manager in a support role in all aspects of document management, presentation, and trade communication and coordination.

Project Manager
Work with a Project Owner, Subcontractors, and Company Senior Management to award contracts, establish budgets, prepare forecasts and monthly reports, procure materials, and monitor and control the financial aspects of a construction project.
Project Superintendent
Work with a Project Owner, Subcontractors, and Company Senior Management to manage, monitor, and control, the on-site execution of the work, safety, labour resources, direct costs and general expenses, schedule, and quality.

Applicant Selection Criteria
Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:- Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario
- Receipt of Application by February 1st (After this date, Fanshawe College will consider applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full)
- Achievement in the Admission Requirements
- Admission to the Fanshawe College Pre-Technology program does not guarantee admission in a subsequent year to the Construction Engineering Technology - Management program. Successful completion of the Fanshawe College Pre-Technology program, however, does enable the student to be given additional consideration when applying to the Construction Engineering Technology - Management program. The Pre-Technology program is the preferred designated preparatory program for admission to the Construction Engineering Technology - Management program.
