This program will equip you with an appreciation of the printing process through all of the printing stages. You will also gain a sound working knowledge of various graphic and layout software programs.
Level 1 Credits Group 1 COMP-3084 Adobe Illustrator 2 Adobe Illustrator is an industry standard illustration application used to design vector based drawings. You will explore the intuitive interface while creating compelling artwork for print, presentations, and the Web. COMP-1447 Digital Illustration & Design 1 3 This course will develop the students' skills and knowledge in creating digital files for graphic design projects. Students will learn the broad use of Adobe Illustrator as a design and illustration tool. This course is offered through OntarioLearn by the host college, Durham college. Group 2 COMP-1417 Adobe Photoshop 2 This course concentrates on the use of the powerful Photoshop software for digital manipulation and the modification of photographic images. Photo retouching will be shown as well as text editing and basic colour correction. Students will be introduced to the software and progressed to intermediate levels of skills and techniques. Whether you are a digital imaging novice or professional, work with software that lets you create without limits and that achieves high-quality results. COMP-1502 Photoshop-Level 1 3 This course will develop the student's design and image creation skills using Adobe Photoshop. Students will be introduced to the tools and commands of this extremely popular digital imaging/web image program. These will include the input of photographic images, selection of specific picture areas for adjustment, use of special tools to control such functions as colorizing, blurring, distorting, adding text, combining images, and the basic process of preparing the file for outputting to hardcopy. The visual elements used in the design of web material must have both appeal and functionality. Knowledge of how to create images for the appropriate media and the technical/design aspects of a project are indispensable skills required of today's Web Developer. Group 3 COMP-1438 Design Basics 3 Have you ever needed to design your own business card or a flyer for an event? If so, this is the course for you. Design Basics will give you the building blocks of design. You will learn about fonts, different layout techniques, and simple layout concepts essential to effective graphic design. COMP-1335 Adobe InDesign-Intro 1 Adobe In-Design is now one of the most powerful layout programs for professional desktop publishers and graphic designers. This course will give you the basics in which you can then further develop your skills to become proficient at using this powerful layout program. COMP-1437 Adobe InDesign Basics 3 This course will cover the fundamental aspects of this rising star in the desktop publishing and design industry. Topics covered will include: creating master pages and single and multiple documents with single and multiple text columns of text; importing text from various sources and flowing it into linked columns of various shapes and sizes; proper kerning/leading and spacing of text and; combining text with imported photos and graphics. Students will learn how to quickly change font or photo size and how to rearrange elements within a page. Assignments will include the production of a resume and a flyer, as well as the student's choice of the creation of a pamphlet, newsletter or booklet. Group 4 COMP-6022 Desktop Publishing 3 Desktop publishers arrange text, graphics and images to produce effective print communication. Learn how professional graphic designers create attractive, persuasive brochures, ads, posters, and newsletters via computer-assisted design. This course examines the elements and principles of design, the fundamentals of colour, typography and photographic images, and the intricacies of printing technologies and dealing with commercial printers. It includes an introduction to imaging, graphics, and page layout software through Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. COMP-1154 Presentations & Desktop Publishing 3 Start, navigate and generally understand concepts essential to the use of Publisher. By working with objects, frames, and text in a publication, students will perform a mail merge, create drawings, and WordArt objects. They will be able to create stationery, design master pages, and use layout and page techniques to enhance Publisher publications. The ability to create electronic presentations as well as various types of print materials such as business cards, letterhead, brochures, flyers and newsletters is necessary in business today. Students should be using Microsoft Publisher and Powerpoint 2013 exclusively.
