QUAL-6002Fundamentals of Quality & TQM3
This course introduces students to the basic concepts of quality management for manufacturing and service industries. Students will learn about the importance of quality in today's world, definitions of quality, history and evolution of quality assurance, contributions of the Quality Gurus, the role of quality assurance in organizations, and a general overview of Total Quality Management (TQM). Additional topics include concepts such as the importance of leadership, total employee involvement, principles of quality of TQM, role of quality control and quality assurance. Students will learn about the cost of quality (COQ) concept and how it drives continuous improvement activities. Students will become familiar with the visible and hidden costs of poor quality that exist in many organizations.
METH-6011Continual Improvement3
In this course students will learn about the principles for Continual Improvement (CI) and the methodologies that can benefit an organization to eliminate waste, decrease costs, optimize performance, and enhance customer satisfaction. The PDCA cycle and the Kaizen approach for continuous improvement will be studied. Additional topics will include how to build a culture of continuous improvement, the role of leadership in creating the strategic vision and quality policy, how to manage relationships with customers and suppliers, how continuous improvements project rely on process improvement teams and the use quality tools. Students will learn the components of a successful team and the stages of team development, and the skills are required to effectively manage projects, make decisions, and solve problems in a team setting.
QUAL-6000Quality System Standards3
In this course students will learn how to implement a Quality Management System based on the internationally accepted Quality Management Systems (QMS) Standard ISO 9000. Students will learn about the key requirements for a quality management system using the ISO 9001:2015 International Standard as a reference. Students will also learn about other related industry specific quality management standards and how to apply the process approach to auditing processes and procedures. Quality system auditing topics will include principles, practices and types of management system audits, best practices of auditing, and the auditing lifecycle. The concept of Integrated Management Systems which combine standards for quality, occupational health & safety, and environmental management will be examined.
QUAL-6001Statistics and Data Analysis3
Students will learn about role of statistics and data in quality assurance. Topics include: descriptive statistical methods, data analysis, random variables, sampling distributions, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, the central limit theorem, the normal distribution and its application, probability concepts, linear regression and correlation, calculating confidence intervals and point estimation. This course provides the student with a foundation for the Advanced Statistics for Statistical Process Control (SPC).
QUAL-6003Struct Prob Solving & Decision Making3
In this course students will learn how to use a structured approach to problem-solving. Emphasis will be on using a step-by-step problem-solving methodology for root cause analysis. Students will learn how to apply the problem-solving process, when to apply it, how and when to use quality tools in support of the problem-solving process. Students will learn how to create a clear problem statement to begin solving problems. Students will have an opportunity to practice using common quality tools and techniques such as process flow charts and cause and effect diagrams, pareto charting, Is-Is-not analysis, five-why technique, and brainstorming. Students will learn decision making techniques and how to use decision-making methods to improve their decision-making skills.
QUAL-6004Metro, Calib & Measurement Systems3
In this course students will learn basic metrology, calibration, and dimensional measurement concepts as applicable to quality assurance and quality control. Course topics include the history, principles, terminology, units of measurement, devices, and the proper selection, application, and care of typical measurement systems. Other topics include interpretation of engineering prints, basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) terminology, tolerancing and understanding datum identification. Students will be introduced to the concept of nondestructive testing for evaluation of product and process integrity.
QUAL-6005Communications for Quality Assurance3
In this course students will learn about effective communication for quality assurance. Students will write quality reports, properly constructed procedures and work instructions, problem-solving reports, customer complaint response letters, audit reports and test reports. Students will study oral presentation strategies that are employed in workplace settings such as team meetings, project reviews and client meetings. Students will learn about how to prepare visual presentations and how to manage nervousness. Students will be required to research a topic and deliver an oral presentation in front of the classroom.

METH-6012Adv Stat Meth and Process Control (spc)3
In this course, students will be introduced to topics in advanced statistics as well as statistical process control. By using more complex statistical techniques, such as ANOVA, students will solve and interpret real-world problems. Students will learn how to calculate linear and multiple regressions between variables and gain a basic understanding of Design of Experiment concepts. Students will learn to use of software such as Minitab and Excel for statistical analysis. In this course students will be introduced to Statistical Process Control (SPC) and the power of control charts to detect instability. Students will learn about various types of control charts, how to set up and use SPC charts, collect data, interpret, and analyze results to assist in reducing process and how to analyze process capability.
SFTY-6022Reliability, Quality & Product Safety2
In this course students will learn about how reliability, quality and product safety are interrelated. Students will learn concepts such as reliability theory, the "Bathtub" curve for product and service lifecycles, series and parallel reliability systems, methods for improving reliability during product design, hazard analysis and how to analyze life data to determine reliability characteristics of a product.
QUAL-6006Lean Prod Process Improvement Techniques4
This course provides students with an understanding of Lean Production System and the improvement techniques that are used to optimize processes and achieve maximum efficiency. Students will learn concepts such as defining value and non-value activities, value stream mapping and wastage elimination utilizing the Eight Wastes (8W) technique, identification and elimination of waste, work measurement methods, 5S, TPM and Visual Controls as well as many other Lean tools.
QUAL-6007Six Sigma Process Improvement Techniques4
In this course students will learn how the Six Sigma methodology is used for process improvement and increasing customer satisfaction by reducing variation, decreasing cost, and achieving zero defects. Topics covered will include DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, and control) model, business case development, the voice of the customer (VOC), critical to quality characteristics, quality function deployment (QFD), benchmarking, financial metrics such as return on investment (ROI), use brainstorming, Pareto charts, problem solving, quality tools, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and force field analysis. In addition, students will learn how the power of the Six Sigma method can be combined with the Lean method to even more method called "Six Sigma".
QUAL-6008Quality Planning & Apqp4
In this course students will learn about planning for quality. Topics covered include planning for quality at the strategic, tactical, operational and project/product level. Emphasis will be placed on the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) framework. Students will learn about APQP's five stage product quality planning process; the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and it's required documentation. Students will be introduced to APQP core tools such as process flow charts, Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Control Pans.
MGMT-6199Quality Management Capstone Project3
This course provides an opportunity for students to conduct a research project into a particular quality management case study, an industry presented problem or a specific topic in the field of Quality Management. Students will spend approximately six weeks of research and solution development culminating in a written formal report. Students will also be required to deliver an oral presentation to summarize their report.
