Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between pathways and exchanges?

Students participating in an exchange program remain registered as full-time students at Fanshawe while studying abroad at a partner school, earning credits towards their Fanshawe program.

Pathway students have completed, or are in the process of completing, a Fanshawe credential and intend to complete another postsecondary credential in Canada or abroad. Pathway students apply directly to the institution of interest. Once admitted, they become a student at that institution.

I would like to take a break to work or do something else after I finish my Fanshawe program. Can I still apply for a pathway?

In most cases, you don't have to start your pathway program right after you finish your Fanshawe program. However, some available pathways may be such that the amount of transfer credit granted is based on current curriculum. You may be able to apply for transfer credits, however, if your program has changed from the time you graduated, admission and transfer credits will be assessed by the receiving institution on an individual basis.

Are my high school grades needed when applying under a pathway?

In some cases, institutions may require the completion of specific high school courses. Contact your institution of interest to confirm eligibility requirements.

What are bridging courses?

Specific course(s) that fill the gaps in learning between a two-year or three-year program and a 4-year degree. Many times, bridging courses are completed in the summer before transferring into the degree program.
