Enhance your career with this specialization in health administration systems and health information management in this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program. You’ll learn about global advancements in the use of technology in electronic patient records, automated voice transcription, digital imaging concepts, ADT (admission-discharge-transfer) systems messaging and workflow. You’ll also develop valuable skills in data analysis and the creation of dashboards.
Upon graduation, you’ll be eligible to pursue acquiring the Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) certification, from the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).
This Health Information Management (HIM) program is accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management.
Graduates may also be eligible to pursue other certifications from Digital Health Canada.*

Students will be introduced to the main concepts of Health Systems Management including the collection, use and disclosure of health records in an evolving healthcare landscape and technology environment. The current health information issues, standards, trends structure and function of health care communities in general, and health care facilities specifically, will be examined. The implication of legislation on health systems management will be explored. Principles of communication, leadership, change management of quality data and information, while maintaining security of health information throughout its life cyle are addressed. The importance of professional ethics, legal and policy implications of health information systems privacy and confidentiality will be emphasized throughout the course. | ||||

In this course, students will develop clinical knowledge through exploration and competencies in the subject areas of Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Pathophysiology. Common industry health and e-health terminology will be introduced to integrate computational and managerial knowledge and experience with health related knowledge and experience. This course focuses on the tools used to collect relevant data and to present its meaning through visual reports and interactive dashboards. Introduces students to the concepts and features of electronic health record (EHR) systems. Students will learn about the functionality of the EHR as it applies to health information management, health information technology and allied health. Students will gain an awareness of how the electronic health record supports efficiencies and accuracy with both inpatient and outpatient facilities and how EHRs contribute to the goals of increased patient safety, privacy and security. | ||||

ACAD-6002 | Graduate Success Strategies | 1 | ||
This course presents and helps to develop some of the skills required to achieve academic and career success for graduate students. Areas of focus include college resources, study skills, and time management among other skills. The importance of Academic Integrity will be a main focus. |
