Enhance your career with this specialization in health administration systems and health information management in this one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate program. You’ll learn about global advancements in the use of technology in electronic patient records, automated voice transcription, digital imaging concepts, ADT (admission-discharge-transfer) systems messaging and workflow. You’ll also develop valuable skills in data analysis and the creation of dashboards.
Upon graduation, you’ll be eligible to pursue acquiring the Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) certification, from the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM).
Graduates may also be eligible to pursue other certifications from Digital Health Canada. In addition, Digital Health Canada active members are eligible to take courses within the Health Systems Management program and earn continuing education hours toward credential renewal.

Students will be introduced to the main concepts of Health Systems Management including the collection, use and disclosure of health records in an evolving healthcare landscape and technology environment. The current health information issues, standards, trends structure and function of health care communities in general, and health care facilities specifically, will be examined. The implication of legislation on health systems management will be explored. Principles of communication, leadership, change management of quality data and information, while maintaining security of health information throughout its life cyle are addressed. The importance of professional ethics, legal and policy implications of health information systems privacy and confidentiality will be emphasized throughout the course. | ||||

In this course, students will develop clinical knowledge through exploration and competencies in the subject areas of Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, and Pathophysiology. This course focuses on the tools used to collect relevant data and to present its meaning through visual reports and interactive dashboards. Focusing on the Canadian health care systems, topics include: history of healthcare in Canada; role of federal and provincial/territorial governments; government funding models; practitioners and practice settings; population health; health and the individual; law and ethics; and current and future issues. | ||||

This course presents and helps to develop some of the skills required to achieve academic and career success for graduate students. Areas of focus include college resources, study skills, and time management among other skills. The importance of Academic Integrity will be a main focus. |
