In this course, the student is introduced to the role of the Ontario Personal Support Worker (PSW) and the scope of practice for the PSW within the health care system. Through class discussion, seminars, lectures, the student will explore confidentiality and privacy, client rights and boundaries, ethical issues, professional behavior, and legislation involving the health care system.

Designed for in-facility care providers such as nursing staff, care aides, medical and dental professionals, and pre-hospital care providers. This course takes the place of the former HCP Level of Standard First Aid / CPR and will be required for PSW students to take their placements. Upon successful completion, students will receive 1 year certification in Basic Life Support from Red Cross.
