Human Services Foundation

Human Services Foundation is a one-year certificate program that provides a broad education in understanding human behaviour. Students will learn strong interpersonal skills, theoretical models of behaviour, client service strategies, and written and verbal communication skills. Graduates of this program will be prepared to advance or supplement their education.

Field Orientation

Students will be introduced to the profession of Early Childhood Education. The class content will support the student in understanding the importance of building relationships with children, principles of practice, value of learning through play and being an ECE professional. Partnerships with Families

This course identifies the importance of establishing respectful, inclusive and responsive relationships with families. Students examine positive strategies for engaging families that promote collaboration and well-being for children in their families. Students examine the role of advocacy and community resources and how they best support individual families and their needs.

Educational Perspectives

This course compares and evaluates Early Childhood Education philosophies and theories from both historical and contemporary perspectives. The emphasis will be on the student integrating current knowledge with experience from the field practicum, into a personal philosophy of Early Childhood Education.

Inclusive Practice

This course examines the principles and practices of an inclusive philosophy in early childhood programs. Students will analyze current childcare practices through theoretical concepts such as the social model for disability and critical (race, gender and disability) theories in order to take a strengths-based approach to inclusion and the implementation of inclusive practices and environments...

Child Development 1

In this course, students explore major theoretical approaches, themes, and methods of studying child development. Students will examine factors that influence development from conception to two years of age. With knowledge and understanding of child development, students will be assisted in preparing developmentally appropriate programming and with guiding children's behaviour in field placement.

Wellness for Children

In this course, students will take a comprehensive look at Children's Wellness in a child care setting. The Children's Wellness course has been broken into 3 large blocks of material.
